- About Me:
- I am a software developer for KS Design with a high interest in Green IT and sustainable living. Currently i am pushing for KS Design to adopt and learn about Green IT strategies that it can adopt. In the near future i hope to be blogging about how KS Design has adopted certain Green IT strategies and how KS Design is taking steps to bring Green to the local Crawfordsville community. I can't say that any of the steps will be big, but i hope to adopt and learn about many small steps that will hopefully lead to bigger steps. Our first step is to become a member of the Indiana Chapter of the US Green Building Council. http://chapters.usgbc.org/indiana/join.html Taking this as a first step we hope to utilize their resources (and others) in order to ensure that for our Networking Installations we are utilizing products from Green Manufacturers where possible. We are also using information from GreenComputing.com and the The451Group.com in order to ensure that when clients are upgrading hardware that we can recomend an appropriate Green IT strategy that will suit thier needs. As well as the needs of our planet.

I am particularly concerned with e-waste. A lot of the componants still work and can be used in schools or churches or shipped overseas. Also they could be recycled. They are pretty toxic when they are landfilled and that is what happens to them mostly.
I also chuckled and wrote a blog post on this site about a 10 year old saving monroe county 25k by turning their computers off at night. It takes a 10 year old to see the obvious truth.
You are right...it is the small things that matter. I look forward to learning from your contributions to the site.
Hopefully we can get some specific ways you are working to improve the environment with your business.
