About Me:
I live by the rule of recycle and reuse everything and think outside the box to create new ways to reuse things I used to throw away. I also live in a mountain forest and am amazed at what people leave behind when they visit here, a lot of it is without respect to the surroundings. I encourage everyone to recycle and think in new ways about what you throw into the landfills.
Being proactive about the environment is not usually popular, it requires changing attitudes and habits and often gets ridiculed. Eventually, though, those changes yield very visible results like lower power and heating bills, healthier diets, amazing yards and gardens and less pollution. Indiana has some of the prettiest foliage in the country and an amazing ground cover. I personally envy your soil and rain as resources, a very fertile environment.
I am looking for a good source of led lighting (both 12 volt and 120 volt), solar panels and deep cycle storage batteries. Price and quality are issues near and dear so please recommend good honest sources.

Hey Derek,
I guess every locale has its own challenges, my current bane is gophers. They have invaded my veggie and flower gardens...grrr! They won;t go into the dog yard and I have considered letting the dogs loose in the garden but I fear their damage would be worse than the gophers who mostly just want a controlling share of all underground root growth.

Did I tell you about the innovative ways people are creating energy from the wind out here? My brother-in-law just designed a mickey mouse rig for collecting electricity from the wind. He is building a wind cup spinner that will run a vertical axel. The axel will, via belts, spin several 12 volt generators salvaged from old cars and charge 12 volt storage batteries. By using invertors and transformers and a few solar panels he can power their house and his wood shop and sell extra energy to the local utility company. Not bad for a card dealer in a casino, eh? City boys can be creative too.
A local company is running into some hassles from econuts...(like the b,m these guys interpret everything to reflect only their point of view) about putting in windmills on a ridge that has a near constant wind blowing at 15 mph...(it takes 7mph to power most windmills). They spout bs about birds getting killed by the blades....okay, about 10 every 6 years or so...not as much as most folks think because the blades do make noise.
Call anytime after 9 a.m. pst to talk, that's noon your time. I rise early most days but have chores in the early morn and Tina likes to sleep till 8.

Hey Bob,
I really dig it that you have joined this site and are participating and can help bring that Pac NW intelligence to Indiana. I would love to live there some day to be in the wilderness and more likeminded people but I have dug in stake here and in doing so help bring it where it is needed the most. Unfortantly we are few and far between at this point but the paradigm is changing and it has been quite interesting seeing it happen. How is it on your end of things? It is a paradox on how campers whom value nature, don't know how to respect it when they come mountian forests.
good to see you here brother,
Love and Light
Derek
