Main Street Revitalization Project - Recycling for Revitalization

The Daviess County Chamber of Commerce is currently working on restoring Main St. in Washington, Indiana through recycling efforts. The Chamber of Commerce has begun to undertake a project on Main St, where the old Meredith building once stood before it was tore down. The project’s aim is to provide an area for the community to enjoy that will feature a gazebo, large fountain, multiple sitting areas, and a garden/flower area.

The Chamber of Commerce is not using any tax dollars to fund this project; instead it is collecting recyclable material to pay for this project. The material being collected is used cell phones, scrap metals (aluminum, copper, brass, and steel), and car/lawnmower batteries. We have placed cell phone collection boxes around Washington, Indiana along with an informational post on the boxes to help spread the word of our efforts. The Chamber of Commerce is trying to get businesses/organizations to collect for certain aspects of the park such as the sitting areas, walkways, or lighting. The Daviess Community Hospital has undertaken collection for the large fountain to be placed near the center of the park. I will upload an artist rendition of the project when I am able to decrease the size of the file. I will try to provide updates on the project as they occur.
